Organised Chaos - sewing organisation

September 2015

Hello budding Neat Freaks.

Gone are the days where we darn a sock or fix a hem. Nowadays it’s all disposable. The sock has a hole, we throw it away and buy a new one that smells nice and looks better. The hem is loose and we don’t know how to fix, we give it away. I fondly remember my grandmother darning whatever she could. Whilst I am guilty of throwing away old socks, I do enjoy the challenge of making something new from something old.

So recently I put my mother’s 30-year-old Bernina, which still works brilliantly by the way, through its paces. I wanted to upgrade the cushions in my living room so instead of spending a fortune on new ones, I simply recovered the inners I already had in a super-easy way (read more here).

When I was done with all my sewing, it was so easy to tidy up because a few years ago, I created a system for my sewing items, which very quickly would look like chaos was reigning supreme instead of creativity! It’s worked pretty well and I’ve tried some sewing organisation tricks that I wanted to share with you. These tricks are simple and can be done in most spaces where you have a lot of bits and pieces, thus creating organised chaos.

Enjoy your month ahead!
